NÍVEL DE ENGAJAMENTO AMBIENTAL: UMA PROPOSTA DE MENSURAÇÃO

Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop a conceptual framework model on environmental engagement and propose and validate a scale for measuring this construct. The research followed a descriptive quantitative approach. The final sample is consisted by 156 respondents, with the majority from Rio Paranaíba - MG and Viçosa - MG cities. Data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire, containing a set of questions related to participants' profiles, a scale of environmental awareness, environmental engagement, and active behavior. Exploratory Factor Analysis, Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient, and Inter-item Correlation statistical techniques were used to test the research hypotheses and validate the proposed model. Based on the data, was possible to create a scale with consistent indicators, demonstrating the validity of the model for assessing people's behavior regarding the level of engagement and their active participation. Thus, it was noted that the majority of participants either did not know or knew little about environmental issues, highlighting the need for educational institutions, universities/colleges, companies, and municipalities to implement specialized programs accessible to the public and effective dissemination strategies to reach people.
