SPENDING TIME ONLINE: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE ON THE BURGEONING STAGE OF CYBERLOAFING

Keywords: Cyberloafing, Systematic Literature Review, Micro breaks, Workplace

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine how the topic of Cyberloafing developed between 2014 and 2023. To this end, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was carried out to build a database from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. This collection followed the parameters used by the study previously carried out by Wu, Song, Ugrin, Liu and Zhu (2021), with the search strings and with the aim of verifying the flowering phase of the Cyberloafing theme. At the end of the search and filtering of the studies, a total of 90 articles were obtained, with a further 8 articles being included due to the need for a better understanding of the data. Thus, it was found that the subject currently being addressed is the search to understand the background to Cyberloafing, as well as the practice of taking micro-breaks during working hours to reduce boredom and stress, in addition to Cyberloafing in the workplace and classroom. Finally, it is possible to state that the author Vivien Lim continues to be the main researcher on the subject and her articles from the early 2000s are the most cited that define and conceptualize the practice of Cyberloafing.
