CORPORATE STRATEGY OF GROWTH AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION: CASE STUDY OF BUSINESS GROUP ITAÚSA S.A.

Abstract

The digital transformation of the financial sector foresees changes in business models. Understanding which corporate growth strategies are adopted during this process to enhance performance is necessary. The objective of the study is to analyze which combinations of corporate growth strategy with digital transformation are necessary or sufficient for the superior performance of an economic group in the financial sector over a period of 10 years. This is an explanatory, qualitative research, characterized as a single longitudinal case study. Data collected from the EMIS Database, B3's Investor Relations website and the Economática database, between 2011 and 2020. QCA – Qualitative Comparative Analysis was used as a data analysis technique. Main results, it can be noted that digital transformation does not produce superior results without being aligned with the corporate growth strategy. For superior performance to be achieved, there must be the presence of a corporate growth strategy of diversification with digital transformation. This study contributes to the themes of digital transformation and corporate growth strategy by showing evidence regarding the conditions under which their combination produces superior performance, showing that it is possible to combine case study with QCA in an extended time perspective.

Elizangela Maria Menegon, Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina

Doutoranda em Administração na Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (UNOESC Chapecó), mestre em Ciências Contábeis e Administração pela Universidade Comunitária da Região de Chapecó (2018), graduada em Administração pela Universidade Comunitária da Região de Chapecó (2018) e em Tecnologia do Empreendimento pela Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (2004). Atualmente é professor horista - Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Comercial - SC e gerente de relacionamento pessoa física no Banco do Brasil. Tem experiência na área de Administração, com ênfase em inovação e processos organizacionais, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: inovação, transformação digital, estratégias corporativas de crescimento, processos organizacionais, planejamento estratégico e prática estratégica.

Formado em Administração pela Unoesc, Campus Joaçaba, deu continuidade à carreira de pesquisador e professor através da conclusão do curso de mestrado na mesma área pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR). A partir daí, passou a atuar profissionalmente na concepção e implementação de processos de planejamento estratégico, ou que escolheu estratégia empresarial como tema da Pós-Graduação em Administração de Empresas de São Paulo (EAESP) da Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV). Após a conclusão, dedicou-se à pesquisa, ensino e consultoria em Estratégia Empresarial e Planejamento Estratégico. Atualmente estuda, conduz e executa avaliações e consultorias em assuntos relacionados às estratégias das empresas, especialmente não se referindo à construção e implementação de suas estratégias.
